About this event

Our off-site special program will feature an Introduction to the Kyoto National Museum’s Exhibition Program and International Initiatives by Kyoto National Museum Director Johei Sasaki, followed by a keynote presentation by Dr. Alexander Kellner, Director of Brazil’s Museu Nacional, who will speak to us about the work of the museum is doing to move forward following the devastating fire of September 2018. These sessions will be held in the Museum Auditorium.

Following the Keynote presentation, there will be a panel presentation on the topic of International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy featuring relevant experiences from museums and cultural organizations from Armenia, Hungary, Kosovo, Italy, Serbia, and the United Kingdom. After the panel, we invite session participants to explore the Kyoto National Museum and tour the permanent exhibition Masterworks of the Kyoto National Museum: Temple and Shrine Treasures.

The exhibition features some of the most exquisite and famous works of art in all of Japan—a veritable textbook of Japanese art treasures. This extraordinarily and unique opportunity is being organized in honor of the 25th ICOM General Conference.

The Special Program ends with a closing reception with light refreshments at the Kyoto National Museum’s Maeda Coffee.
